Chris Burden's "What My Dad Gave Me"

Since I had a Build-A-Bear date with my best girl friend we got off at Rockefeller Center. So I wanted to show her Chris Burden's "What My Dad Gave Me". It did not disappoint, it was actually smaller than I had anticipated. None the less striking and I'm not sure if the security guards are necessary but they did help point us out in the right direction to Build-A-Bear.

Olafur Eliasson's "Waterfalls"

I will absolutely have to make the trek downtown to check out Olafur Eliasson's "Waterfalls". If only I still worked around South Street Seaport then it would be convenient given my current grueling work schedule. I wish they were on all night instead of shutting off at 10PM. I guess I could only imagine how they would look at night. The NYT guide for viewing.

Rickshaw Dumpling Bar

I wanted to have dinner at Cosi's but I since I was deterred by their mandatory sit down service after 5PM, I decided to walk over another street and over to Rickshaw Dumpling Bar. I distinctly remember learning about Rickshaw since it's inception after watching the founder, Kenny Lao on an episode of the MTV series "True Life". I thought the concept was a bit too upscale and I would say overpriced for simply just some dumplings. I guess I had my own bias being American-Chinese but I guess I finally caved in and decided to just give it an honest try. I would have to say I was genuinely surprised by how tasty they were. I had the Peking duck ones and got the accompanying shiitake mushroom noodle soup with it. I will have to say my tummy was very pleased after having that meal for dinner.

Rooney & Locksley

So on Sunday night I caught Rooney and Locksley at Irving Plaza for the start of Rooney's headlining tour.I've been a fan of Rooney ever since I would have to say my freshman year of high school, so it's a love affair that's been going on for about six years. I caught them once before at Roseland Ballroom when they were touring with the All-American Rejects and The Academy Is... Unfortunately since they were sandwiched between those two heavier acts, it made it hard to fully enjoy their set. I'm so glad I did catch them out in Los Angeles at the Avalon with Ben Lee for the Fun Fun Fun tour. It was before they had put out any new material so they played every single song from their debut album which I constantly had on repeat for a number of years. For this show, they mainly played songs of of their most recent album "Calling All The World", which I sadly did not memorize before the show.
The concert of course was on par as almost as amazing as the one I had previously caught in LA, but almost even better since I got to dance along with my with a girl friend I have now dubbed my concert buddy. It was so much fun to catch Rooney at the first city of their headlining tour. During the show I guess I got a little excited so when Robert got close to us, I even went as to far as to grab him by the knees and his reaction was that of shock. I felt semi-embarrassed and even fessed up and apologized at the meet in greet, in which his response was "Oh, you can grab me by the knees any time". How shockingly sweet. I mentioned how I caught them on the Fun, Fun, Fun Tour which he told me was his favorite tour.
Signed ticket bliss.
To my surprise, Locksley was also performing! I remember finding out about Locksley through friends at high school and I even remember getting invited to a couple of their Myspace shows. I would have to say watching them perform a full set and then getting to meet and talk to the members makes me fall in love with their music even more. I think I was under the impression that they were a home grown Brooklyn band, but they actually hail from Wisconsin. I'm currently obsessed with the bass player, Jordan Laz.
